Mount Kilimanjaro dominates the skyline of northern Tanzania, its snow-capped summit visible for miles across the surrounding savannah. Climbers pass through five distinct climate zones on the way up, from cultivated farmland and rainforest to alpine desert and an arctic summit zone.
