About Tarangire National Park
Tarangire is named for the river that cuts through it, the only reliable water source in the area during the dry season and a magnet for wildlife from July to October. Herds of several hundred elephants gather along its banks, moving between ancient baobab trees that dot the landscape. Quieter than the Serengeti or Ngorongoro, Tarangire also has some of the best birdlife in northern Tanzania, with over 550 recorded species.
